Your deck has seen a lot. Summer cookouts, slow Sunday mornings with coffee, kids racing barefoot across the boards, and plenty of rainy Triad afternoons. All that living leaves its mark, and the wood that once felt rock solid underfoot can start to splinter, sag, or pull away from its fasteners.

When your deck loses a bit of its shine, the team at Quality Remodeling knows how to bring it back. We’ve spent more than 40 years restoring outdoor spaces for Greensboro homeowners, and deck repair sits right in our wheelhouse.

A worn deck does more than dull your curb appeal. A loose plank or a wobbly railing can turn a relaxed evening outside into a real safety worry, especially with family gathered close.

We treat your repair the way we would treat our own, because the goal never changes. We want you back outside, enjoying the fresh air, without a single thought about what is happening beneath your feet.

We had a deck that was in desperate need of repair, and Paul Miller with Quality Remodeling was one of the folks I called to get an estimate. He was very responsive and helpful, and although his estimate came in a tiny bit over another I'd gotten, both my husband and I felt great about having Paul and Justin manage this job. Paul was able to have a crew on the job within weeks, not months like the other company. After we'd agreed on a start date, we had a death in the family, and my husband flew to the Midwest for several days. My request to postpone the work for an additional week was not met with any type of frustration, just concern at our loss. The old deck was taken down and taken away completely, and the new deck went up and looks great. After it was all finished, I had a concern about one board that had a small split, and when I pointed it out to the finishing crew member (doing the final work for the job, sanding the railings and such), he said he'd already noted that board and was going to talk to Justin about it - he pointed out to me that it extended further than I'd even noticed. Please note - this was not an obvious flaw, just a small separation that I was worried might become a problem over time. The board was examined by Justin who decided to err on the side of caution and replace it, and that work was completed that same day. We are *incredibly* pleased with the end product. The railings are perfectly spaced (my OCD eye would catch one that was off by the smallest bit!) and look *awesome* - I'm so glad we opted to get the metal ones instead of the old style wooden ones. Our gate is perfect too, and will make our house a perfect home for a family with littles when we put it on the market in a few years. I never had a moment of concern in dealing with this small family run business. I was never worried if we'd have the end result we wanted, or if the work would be completed on time, and well. The other company we considered had an excellent salesman, but I bet if we'd opted to go with them we would not have seen him while the job was being done. Here, I knew I'd see the principles frequently, and we did. The crew was also in frequent contact with their bosses, and I was kept in the loop regarding any weather delays. I'll post some photos - we're so proud of our new space, and so happy we finally took action and got the work done. I don't hesitate to recommend Paul & Justin Miller and Quality Remodeling, and look forward to calling them again for future projects.

We contracted Quality Remodeling to complete a renovation project in our basement to split a basement garage/utility room in half and build us a new home office. I called Paul and Justin and they came out the next day to take measurements and provide a quote. A couple of days later, we received visual renderings of the space. About a week later, work began and they gave us an estimated two week timeline for completion. The work was done at the highest professional standard, and was completed within the timeline. The folks they had out here working were fantastic, and the communication between everyone was top notch. They went above and beyond what we initially asked and found other opportunities for our new space we had not considered such as the addition of some additional lighting, and a better approach to the HVAC requirements. This was our first big renovation experience, and these folks made the entire experience fun and not stressful. I would absolutely hire these folks again and have already recommended them to several of our friends.

Quality Remodeling did an amazing job with the building and finishings of our two-story addition. We are super pleased with the excellent craftsmanship of the builder who completed our bathroom remodel, custom closet and screened-in porch. The professionalism provided by Paul and his team was refreshing. We look forward to a continued relationship with this company as we pursue other home renovations.

Common Signs Your Deck Is Ready for Repair

Most decks do not fall apart overnight. They drop hints, and catching those hints early can save you money and spare you a bigger headache down the road. Before you write off your deck or assume the worst, take a slow walk across it and look for the telltale clues.

Here are the warning signs our crews spot most often:

  • Boards that feel spongy, bounce underfoot, or show soft spots from rot.
  • Splinters, cracks, or gray weathered wood that no longer holds a finish.
  • Railings or balusters that wobble when you lean against them.
  • Popped nails, rusted screws, or loose connections at the joists.
  • Shaky stairs or a ledger board pulling away from the house.

A few of these issues are purely cosmetic, while others point to trouble in the structure that holds everything together. When you notice them piling up, your deck is asking for a professional set of eyes before the next backyard get-together.

Our Deck Repair Services in Greensboro, NC

No two decks wear down the same way, so we never force a one-size-fits-all fix on your home. Our deck repair services start with a careful look at what is going on, then we map out a plan that respects your budget and your timeline.

Sometimes a handful of fresh boards does the trick. Other times, the framing needs reinforcing so the whole structure feels safe again.

Our repair work tends to cover the following:

Replacing

rotted, cracked, or warped deck boards

Rebuilding

loose or unsafe railings, stairs, and balusters

Reinforcing

joists, beams, and the ledger board

Swapping

out corroded fasteners and hardware for solid new connections.

Sanding, sealing, and refinishing

to shield the surface from the weather.

Once the work wraps up, your deck should feel sturdy, look refreshed, and stand ready for whatever the seasons throw at it. We choose materials that match your home and hold up to the heat, humidity, and storms that come with life in Greensboro.

Deck Renovations and Ongoing Maintenance

Sometimes, a repair becomes the perfect moment to dream a little bigger.

If your deck feels cramped, dated, or simply does not fit the way you live now, our deck renovations can reshape it into something you look forward to using.

Our renovation specialists assist with:

  • Additions of custom features like built-in seating, outdoor kitchens, and pergolas.
  • A custom design extending the size of your deck.
  • Multi-level additions matching your tri-level home’s exit doors.
  • Raising a deck to eliminate a step down from the house to the deck.
  • Removal of decking and reconstruction of the deck with composite decking.
  • Replacement of old, loose deck railings with modern, premium railings.
  • Stair additions that seamlessly integrate a deck to a new pool.
  • Wall and screen additions that turn a deck into a three-season, screened outdoor space.

And our Deck Maintenance Services Include:

  • Deck Staining: Enrich color, highlight natural wood grain, and add protective coating.
  • Deck Painting: A fresh coat to transform and protect your deck’s surface.
  • Deck Waterproofing: Shield against rain, moisture, and rot.
  • Minor Repairs and Upkeep: Fixing loose boards, nails, or railings before they become big problems.

We can widen the footprint, add built-in seating, upgrade to low-maintenance composite, or tie the space into a screened porch where you can unwind away from the bugs. Many of these ideas pair beautifully with our deck-building services, so refreshing and reimagining can happen in one go.

Staying ahead of wear matters too. A little deck maintenance each year keeps small problems from snowballing into expensive ones. Cleaning, resealing, and a quick seasonal inspection go a long way toward protecting your investment.

The North American Deck and Railing Association shares a helpful overview of seasonal deck safety checks through its Check Your Deck guide, and our team is glad to handle that upkeep for you so you never have to crawl under the boards yourself.
